Blaney Maintains PASS South Point Lead After Fifth at South Boston
Blaney took the Seal Wrap/Heavy Duty Industrial Services machine to the top five at SoBo.
Speed and consistency not only win races for young drivers like Ryan Blaney, but the same qualities are necessary to clinch championships.
A fifth-place finish on an up-and-down night for Blaney at South Boston Speedway in Virginia on May 7th kept the Seal Wrap/Heavy Duty Industrial Services #10 Chevrolet team to the top of the PASS South standings after five races.
The top-five finish was a solid end to a consistent evening for the DB Racing team.
"We started off good and we were just kind of riding there at the beginning," said Blaney of his South Boston race. "We were trying to do what (second-place finisher) Preston (Peltier) and (race winner Andy) Loden did. We kind of got moved back a little bit on a restart. There was a jumble off of four, which pushed us back to eighth. We fought back up there, but unfortunately Loden and Preston got by us on that deal, but it wasn’t too bad of a night."
The race at South Boston saw its fair share of carnage that ended the chances of some other contenders, but Blaney was able to keep his #10 car clean and left town with the point lead - a lead he hopes to continue for the remainder of the PASS South season beginning with the next event, May 28th at Virginia's Motor Mile Speedway.
"I had to be pretty cautious out there all night, but congratulations to Andy and all them. Hopefully we’ll go off to Motor Mile and hope to do better.
"You keep getting top-fives and you might win the championship. We’ll keep getting those top fives and some wins here and there and I think we’ll be there at the end."
