Blaney Salvages a Top 10 at Lucas Oil Raceway
Late Race Wreck Ends Bid for Top Five
Ryan Blaney left Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) after the CRA Circle City 100 knowing that he and his Dave Blaney Racing team gave it their all at the flat .686 mile track. A long weekend of chasing the handling of his racecar, and dodging wrecks ended, with a ninth-place finish.
"It's no lie that we struggled all weekend," said Blaney. "I have never run a track with that much corner in my life and it was a challenge. We got the car better, but nothing to where we were super competitive. We missed one wreck, then got swept up in another and ended up ninth so it's not that bad of a showing.”
Blaney was 18th on the qualifying chart and took advantage of others misfortune during the race. He was actually up to eighth before his car was damaged in one of the later wrecks. That incident slid him back in the final rundown.
"We are almost there handling-wise," said Blaney. "The flat corner tracks have been a bit of a challenge for us and we wanted to run this one for several reasons. It gives some info for the Rowdy 251 which is coming right up."
Ryan's week is going to be busy as the team will load up to run the PASS South event at Newport Speedway (TN) on Saturday, June 18th and then he will truck north to Michigan for the Rowdy 251 at Berlin Raceway (MI) on Tuesday, June 21st. Blaney was seventh in that event one year ago and is looking for better finish in 2011. The Rowdy 251 is quickly becoming one of the biggest Super Late Model shows in Michigan and the Midwest.
