The CRA Southern Six Pack Series is true test on all types of different racetracks. Ryan Blaney took his winning way to Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) after he won the most recent event in the series at the Hickory Motor Speedway (NC). But the configuration of Hickory is far different then Gresham, so there could have been an entirely different outcome for the young driver this past weekend. Still the results ,were about the same as Blaney worked his way to finish third to score another solid effort.
“I didn’t think we had a third-place car,” said Blaney. “We just worked on it and made good moves on the restarts. I could have gotten Bubba (Pollard) I think, but I messed up on the last restart. Third here is not too bad and with the guys in front of us with big motors.”
Blaney had to dodge a few wrecks along the way and survived a wild 100-lap event at GMP. This is all in preparation for the season ending World Crown 300 in November which pays $20,000 to the winner.
Horsepower was the key to victory at Gresham, compared to the previous race at Hickory where having too much power could be almost a negative thing as Blaney scored a win in a crate motor that didn’t burn up his tires too quickly.
“We are going to do some tweaking and hopefully be able to contend for a win the next time we are here,” said Blaney. “We don’t have as big a motor as the guys in front of us, but we’ll see what we can do.”
Blaney will return to action on August 7th as the PASS South Super Late Models head to Newport Speedway in Tennessee. His next race with the CRA South Six Pack will be on October 3rd as he will return to Nashville for the All American 400 weekend.
