The last time that Ryan Blaney took to Dillon Motor Speedway (SC), things didn't exactly get started on a high note. Blaney started the race deep in the field - back in the 17th position. But being near the back was only a temporary problem, as Blaney recovered to finish on the podium and in the third position at the end of the race.
“I learned a whole lot from that race,” said Blaney. “I was able to find the best way around the track and the right places to set up and make passes by coming from the back. It ended up being a good day for our team.
However, Blaney hopes to follow a very different script on his next visit to Dillon, which will come during the PASS South season opener this Saturday.
“I don't think that we will want to start that far back this time,” said Blaney. “Starting near the front is always the better way to go. I'll be able to save our equipment and tires so hopefully we'll have something to go for the win at the end. Definitely one of our goals this year will be to start in the top 10 at every race."
Ryan Blaney is Ready to Get PASS South Season Started at Dillon
Improving his qualifying efforts is not the only goal that Blaney has in bettering himself in PASS South this season. In 2009, the young man finished second in the season-long point standings. This year, he hopes to battle for the championship again and possibly place one position better. A strong finish at Dillon is the first step to accomplishing that goal.
“It is really important to get the season started off well,” said Blaney. “Last year, I finished in the top five for the first three races and that was big. Momentum is good - it gets the guys fired up and gives you something to go on.”
The PASS South Carolina Clash 150 at Dillon Motor Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, March 13th.
